Most of the women who carry it nowadays, wear it only as a decorative accessory; wrapping around the neck or some time hanging down the shoulder. Most of the young girls of the new generation in urban areas do not carry it at all.
Other Traditional dresses:
Pakistani women wear a variety of traditional dresses, but they mostly wear those dresses on special occasions like on weddings, engagements and other traditional functions. The suits include the Ghagra Choli and Sari which are very popular. Each design and colour of the dresses are unique. The Lehenga have a skirt, but it is a trendy & traditional dress. Laacha is also a classic dress that is worn in the Punjab areas.
Bloch women wear a long frock and Shalwar with a headscarf with the heavy embroidery of Sheesha work.
Sindhi women wear the Lehenga and Choli (pullover shirt) with full handmade embroidery, especially on silk fabric.
Punjabi women wear the Kameez Shalwar and different styles of Shalwar like (Pothohari Shalwar, Laacha and Patiala Shalwar, etc.).
Pashtun women wear Shalwar Kameez and Firaq.
Kalash women wear long shirts with heavy embroider.
Religious Clothing:
In Pakistan some females like religious clothes in which they try to cover all their body parts, especially when they are going outside of the homes. Some women cover their heads with Dupatta and Chadar, but religious women wear Scarf, Burqa, Gowns, and Hijab. Religious men wear long tunics.
Wedding dresses in Pakistan:
In Pakistan, traditional weddings are celebrated by wearing different styles of clothes. In major urban cities on the occasion of Mehndi, men wear an embroidered kurta in glittering colors with simple Shalwar and a colorful shawl which they put on their shoulders and sometimes round the neck. The bride wears typically yellow color Kameez or some time green or orange with Patiala Shalwar or simple Shalwar and wears yellow embroidered Dupatta.
During Barat and Walima functions the groom wears special Sherwani or white color simple Kameez Shalwar with Khussa and wears colorful Turban on their heads according to their culture. In some places, grooms wear traditional Sehra on their heads and cover their faces. Brides usually wear a Lehenga, and it must be in Red, Maroon, or Pink colors. They wear heavy jewelry and decorate their hands and feet with Hina (Mehndi) designs.
