In 2001, Sharmila Faruqui  and her father, Usman Farooqi, who used to lead Pakistan Steel Mills, took a lot of money (Rs 195 billion) from Pakistan Steel Mills and the Government of Pakistan. This was done wrongly through political means and dishonest acts. Her mother, Anisa Farooqi, was arrested and later made a deal with the National Accountability Bureau on April 28, 2001. Different government agencies thoroughly looked into the family because they didn’t pay their electricity bills, which amounted to Rs 1 million.


The party’s leader was introduced to everyone at a big event (Jalsa) of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). Before this event in Karachi, Sharmila Faruqui, who had criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party for having a dance and concert during their protest, did something similar. She hosted a dance party at her home, and many women attending the PPP event also attended. At this party, Sharmila Faruqui and her friends danced in front of everyone. They had the PPP flag drawn on their faces and wore traditional hand decorations (Mehndi). By doing this, Sharmila Faruqui was acting in the same way she had criticised another political party, which she and her party had previously spoken against.
