Gurpreet Singh Waraich (Punjabi: ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਵੜੈਚ; born 19 July 1971), commonly known as Gurpreet Ghuggi, is a Punjabi actor, comedian, and politician. Pigeon began his career in theatre in the early 1990s, after which he has starred in television series such as the Ronak Mela and the soap opera Parchwen.

He gained international public recognition with his comedic roles in the videos Ghuggi Junction (2003) and Ghuggi Chu Mantar (2004), starring Asa Nu Maan Watna Da (2004) as Patwari Jhilmil Singh. He acted in the film Carry On Jatta (2012) and was praised for his important role in Ardaas film (2015).

Early life

Gurpreet Singh Wardach was born on 19 June 1971 in Khokhar Fozian, Gurdaspur, Punjab.

Early career

Gurpreet’s career began with a number of theatrical plays. In the 1990s, when he was cast in a comedy series, he took a break from television, Ronak Mela. After the Raunak Mela, Ghugi played the lead role in the soap opera Parchwen, played a serious role, as well as on several shows such as Ghuggi Express and Ghuggi Online.

2004 – present

Gurpreet’s first film role was in the romantic drama Asa Nu Man Watan Da, in which he played a brief stint as a ground record officer. Released in 2004, the film was a direct-to-video. Soon, he became a Kalam member of several films, including Nalaik and Jija Ji. Ghuggi achieved her big-screen success in 2015 when she was given the opportunity to play a major role in Ardaas. His involvement in the film earned him a Filmfare Award for Best Actor (Critics).

Apart from working in Punjabi movies, Gurpreet Ghuggi has also acted in some Bollywood and Canadian movies like Singh Is King and Breakaway. He gained public recognition in India through his participation in ‘The Great Indian Lottery Challenge’, a star shows in Star One. The pigeon later appeared on Star One’s Hans Baliyan with his wife Kuljit Kaur and won the match.

Ghuggi also performed at Shoki Mela 2003 (with Kamal Heer, Manmohan Waris, and Sangatar), Baisakhi Mela 2009 (with Jazzy B and Sukhsindar Shinda), and Vaisakhi Mela 2010 (Nachhatar Gill, Master Saleem, and others).

Political career

In 2014, Wardach joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), a political party in India. From September 2016 to May 2017, he led the AAP government as the party’s provincial convener but was replaced by Bhagwant Mann. After taking his place, he left the party, saying he refused to work under “drunkenness.”
