How to Speed Up a slow Laptop or PC for Better Performance

Published on Nov 16, 2023 by

In this fast and modern era, working with a slow laptop can be exceptionally frustrating. Everyone remembers the day they brought their laptops and enjoyed lightning-fast speeds. It doesn’t matter how far you are with the maintenance of a computer, it will slow down surprisingly. So, by learning how to speed up a laptop’s performance, you can save a lot of your time and get rid of stress.

Steps to boost Laptop’s Speed:

Close System Tray Programs: When you turn on your computer and respond to a slow start, then it might be possible that there are too many programs starting at the same time as Windows itself. Items in the system tray often launch at startup and then stay running while you use your computer.

To close these programs, click on the upward arrow on the right side of your taskbar. Then right-click on the program which you don’t need.

Stop Programs Running on Start-Up:

Just like programs running in the tray, there are some other programs automatically running on startup.

To stop these programs, right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager or hit Ctrl-Shift-Escape to launch. Head towards the startup tab, and you will be able to see each program that runs on startup and its impact. To disable any program, right-click and hit Disable.

Swap Out for an SSD:

If your laptop has a mechanical hard drive, then changing it to a solid-state drive (SSD) could pay dividends. SSD has read and write speeds far quicker than any traditional industry.

For the past few years, SSD prices have gone down and their capacities up. So, putting one on your laptop won’t break the bank.

Update your OS, drivers:

Most probably, you have heard that keeping software up to date is a good idea for security. This is true, and it can help performance too. Windows will automatically send you a notification when an update is available. Aside from your OS, drivers should be kept up to date again.
