1995: Raaz

In 1995, Hadiqa Kiani was chosen as the Best Female Singer in Pakistan by the viewers of NTM, a TV channel. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was named the Best Male Singer in the same event.

The next year, in 1996, Hadiqa released her first music album called Raaz (which means Secret). This album had many popular songs and got good reviews. People think it did well because not many female singers, especially those not from musical backgrounds, were making albums in Pakistan then. She was the first woman to release a pop music album after another famous singer, Nazia Hassan, stopped her music career. In this album, Hadiqa also sang a well-known Kashmiri folk song, Maane Di Mauj.

Hadiqa’s fame grew even more in January 1997 when she became the first Asian singer to perform on a British TV show, the National Lottery Live on BBC One, which many people watched. After that, she did two more TV shows with Bally Sagoo for BBC and ITV and then went on her first music tour in the United States. During this tour, she performed in 15 states and some cities in Canada. In the same year, she performed in many places like the United Kingdom, Australia, and China. She was the only singer from Pakistan who performed at a big event in Hong Kong called Celebration Hong Kong 97, where she sang with other international artists. This event was to celebrate Hong Kong no longer being a part of the United Kingdom. Hadiqa was the first well-known singer from Pakistan to perform in Hong Kong.

By the end of 1997, Hadiqa made history by becoming the first Asian woman to sign a deal with Pepsi Cola International. She was the second international female artist to do so, after Gloria Estefan.

1998: Roshni

In 1998, Hadiqa Kiani recorded a song for the 1999 Cricket World Cup. This song, sponsored by Pepsi, was called Intehai Shauq. Her mother, Khawar Kiani, wrote it, and Nizar Lalani composed and produced it. Jami and Imran Baber made the music video. The song successfully inspired many people in Pakistan with its powerful images and words.

During the same time as the World Cup, Hadiqa released her second music album Roshni. One of the songs from this album, Dupatta, became very popular. Its music video was inspired by the sci-fi movie The Matrix. This song is known as one of the top 20 pop songs in Pakistan. People liked it because of its mix of bhangra rhythm and modern beats and also because of Hadiqa’s unique singing style.

After Dupatta, Hadiqa released two more songs, Roshni and Woh Kaun Hai. Another song from this album, Boohey Barian, became even more famous than Dupatta and is often considered Hadiqa’s best song.

The Roshni album sold over a million copies in Pakistan, earning a Platinum certification. It’s listed as one of the best local pop albums in Pakistan. Hadiqa was recognised as one of the top female singers because of this album.

Her success led to her being chosen by Unilever to promote Lipton tea in 2001 and Sunsilk shampoo in 2002 after being named the Most Popular Woman of Pakistan in a national survey. In the early 2000s, Hadiqa performed live concerts in many countries including the US, Canada, the UK, and several countries in the Middle East, Far East, Europe, and Australia.

2002: Rung

In September 2002, Hadiqa Kiani released her third music album, Rung. About 10 months later, in June 2003, she started promoting this album. She released a new song called Ranjhan and did many performances and tours in Pakistan. During 2003 and 2004, she released more songs from this album, including Jogi Bun Kay Aa, Mahi, and Dholan.

In the song Jogi Bun Kay Aa, Hadiqa played different roles, such as a traditional Japanese woman, an Arab woman, and a tribal woman. In the music video for Mahi, directed by Asim Raza, she portrayed a vampire. This video was the most expensive one made in 2003. It showed that judging people by their faith or caste is wrong. In 2004, she was awarded the Best Female Pop Singer Award by Indus Music, Pakistan’s first 24-hour music channel. Asim Raza received an award for directing the video for Mahi.

After the release of Rung, Hadiqa was named one of the most influential people in Pakistani pop music. She was ranked ninth in a list of Pakistani Pop’s 10 most Influential Acts Ever. She was one of only two female singers on this list, the other being Nazia Hassan. A magazine in the UK ranked her as the 22nd greatest music maker in South Asia. A few years later, Indian Sufi singer Harshdeep Kaur covered Hadiqa’s song Jogi Bun Kay Aa on a popular Indian TV show. Hadiqa’s mother, Khawar Kiani, wrote this song’s lyrics.

The album Aasmaan was very successful and stayed at the top of the charts for the whole year in INSTEP Magazine. By the end of 2009, it was chosen as the Best Album of the Year because many people bought it, liked it, and downloaded it from the internet.

All the songs from Aasmaan did really well. Sohnya stayed at number one for a long time and was called the best pop song of 2009. Other songs like Tuk Tuk and Az Chashme Saqi also reached number one on different TV charts.

In February 2010, Hadiqa released a new song called Janan, where she sang with Irfan Khan, a Pashto singer. This song became very famous, even more than some of her other big hits. It was so popular that the Los Angeles Times wrote about it, saying everyone in Pakistan was listening to it. Hadiqa sang this song in Pashto, which made it special. People started calling her Hadiqa Pathani because she sang a Pashto song even though she is Punjabi. This song helped make Pashto culture more popular in Pakistan, with girls wearing Pashto dresses like Hadiqa and other singers starting to sing in Pashto too.
