RCS will Replace the SMS in Android

Posted on Nov 18, 2019

Over the world, Facebook-owned applications use WhatsApp more than half a billion people a month to connect with their loved ones because it is free to send messages and simply requires the internet.

But it seems that WhatsApp is facing its biggest rival because Google has made text messages on Android phones almost as good as the WhatsApp.

Google was informed Thursday that the Google Messages app has been updated on the phones operating on the world's most popular smartphone operating system, which is currently being introduced in the US.

With this update, users will be able to find many features that are currently used by iPhone users on iMessages or WhatsApp, such as red recipes and group chats.

The Google Rich Communication Service (RCS) has been in operation since 2016, and for this, Google shared it with mobile operators and smartphone makers around the world, but its access to customers still lacks mobile operators. It could not be possible.

RCS will replace the SMS or short message service in Android that has been in place for over 25 years while allowing users to send and receive chats, high-resolution photos, and videos over Wi-Fi, read receipts, typing. Indicators will be able to use features such as add or remove people in group chats and group chats.

Google Product Management Director Sanz Ahari confessed during an interview that this update should have come a long time ago because at this time the SMS protocol in the Android system does not have the latest features available to users.

He said that these are features that work in accordance with the requirements of the present covenant, this is an important step in the right direction.

RCS can be turned on by opening the Android Messages app and various new chat features will appear, text messages will automatically start using the new protocol if your acquaintance also has this system in place. The service is currently only available on one percent of Android phones after the update on Thursday, but by the end of this year, these new features will be available to consumers across the United States.

However, the service does not have end-to-end encryption and Sanz Ahari said that it is a complex matter and there are technical complications as we have to look into the legal and policy issues of the partners.

RCS was first introduced in the UK and France this year by Google and is now being offered in the US. According to Sanz Ahari, the RCS launch is a big step, but this is not the end but it will be pushed forward.

The RCS service will also require a phone number like WhatsApp. Google was introduced last year to Android messages in this regard, aimed at giving users a chance to get an early glimpse of the RCS and use it instead of the standard SMS app on their phones.

SMS is a service of 160 characters that have existed for decades, but today's phones are more powerful and users are demanding more features and that is what has made WhatsApp and Messenger successful.

Now Google wants to push them through this new service that will provide Google digital assistant services to users along with other features.
