After being compromised by hackers, the personal information of over 500 million Facebook users has been made public, including Mark Zuckerberg's phone number.
This data, which is freely accessible online, shows how much knowledge Facebook gathers about its users and what is not quite secure. A website provides information on 533 million Facebook members, including phone numbers, Facebook IDs, full names, places, dates of birth, profiles, and certain email addresses.
A Facebook spokesperson confirmed the consumer data breach, saying it was old data that was published in 2019 and found and corrected in August 2019.
The company patched a flaw in its server in August 2019 that allowed hackers to leak the information, but it's difficult for the company to stop the data from spreading once it's out of the cloud.
Alon Gall, chief technical officer at cryptography research firm Hudson Rock, discovered the data on April 3, 2021. In a tweet, he clarified that such a massive database is frequently not automatically shared on a large scale because hackers are searching for long-term gains.
Regarding the #FacebookLeak, of the 533M people in the leak - the irony is that Mark Zuckerberg is regrettably included in the leak as well.— Dave Walker (@Daviey) April 3, 2021
If journalists are struggling to get a statement from @facebook, maybe just give him a call, from the tel in the leak? 📞😂@GazTheJourno pic.twitter.com/lrqlwzFMjU
He predicted that it will take weeks or years for the whole database to spill. In a hacker forum, data on 53 million people are actually available for download. However, according to a source, the phone number of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is also included in this information.
Mark Zuckerberg's personal information, including his name, address, marital details, date of birth, and Facebook account ID, has allegedly been leaked.
