Shaista Bano appointed Acting Chairperson of Competition Commission of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has appointed Shaista Bano Gilani as acting chairperson of the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP).

The April 28 meeting of the federal cabinet approved the appointment of Shaista Bano on the basis of acting charge, a notification issued by the finance department on May 4.

Shaista Bano Gilani holds a Masters Degree in Economics in Competitive Law from King's College, the University of London, and a Masters in Business Administration from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad.

He has also been an Associate Chartered Certified Accountant in the UK since 2006.

He served as Deputy Registrar of Companies in the Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) till 2007 and then joined the Competition Commission of Pakistan in the same year.

As Director-General of Cartels and Trade Abuses at the CCP, he has led several important investigations and inspections.

He also wrote numerous inquiry reports on wider industries and economic sectors such as telecommunications, electronic media, power generation, and transmission, LPG, CNG, sugar, cement, stock exchanges, and putty factories.

As a result of these investigations, investigations and inquiry reports, big cartels, and methods of exploitation were uncovered.

In April 2019, he was appointed a member of the Competition Commission of Pakistan.
