Record increase in anti-Semitic attacks in the United States

New York: According to a report, last year saw a record increase in anti-Semitic attacks in the United States, including physical attacks.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) said in its annual report that 2,107 attacks against Jews were recorded in the United States in 2019, according to the French news agency AFP.
This is the highest number since the record was set in 1979.

Remember that ADL works for the protection of Jews.

ADL Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jonathan Greenblatt said in a statement that this was the year when extraordinary anti-Semitic activity was observed, at a time when most Jews in the country were the target of direct hate attacks.

"Such attacks have created an atmosphere of fear and panic in our communities," he said.

According to the audit, anti-Semitic attacks increased by 12% to 1,879.

According to the report, last year was worse than 2017 when 1,986 anti-Semitic attacks were recorded.

High-profile attacks on Jews include an attack on a synagogue in April last year, a shooting at a grocery store in New Jersey in December of that year, and a knife attack on a Jewish rabbi's home in New York the same month.

According to the ADL report, 2019 saw a 56% increase in physical attacks.

It added that anti-Semitic violence had killed five people and physically assaulted 91 others.

According to the report, more than half of the attacks took place in New York City, which has the largest Jewish population outside Israel.

According to the report, in 2019, attacks were reported in all US states except Alaska and Hawaii.

The highest number of attacks was recorded in New York, New Jersey, California, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania.

The ADL said 270 of these attacks were carried out by well-known extremist groups or individuals influenced by extremist ideology.
