Prime Minister decide to form a joint parliamentary committee

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to form a joint parliamentary committee of government and opposition members to seek opposition support in the fight against the Coronavirus.

The Prime Minister made this decision in a meeting with National Assembly Speaker Assad Qaiser at the Prime Minister House.

A statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office said: "During the meeting on the situation and control of the Corona virus, there was agreement on the formation of a joint parliamentary committee of the government and the opposition.

According to the statement, to prevent the spread of the Corona virus in the country and to protect the people and the economy from its effects, the Prime Minister said that the government was in touch with international agencies and used all the resources to provide relief to the people. 

During the meeting, Speaker National Assembly Assad Qaiser discussed the situation in the country with Corona virus and the steps taken at the government level to deal with the deadly virus.

The Prime Minister said that China's cooperation with Pakistan to prevent the Corona virus is commendable.

Prime Minister Imran Khan was quoted as saying that people should focus on taking precautionary measures against the Corona virus rather than being frightened.

It was stated that the Speaker National Assembly was empowered to meet with the opposition to propose a name for the Joint Parliamentary Committee.

Also Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser said that all political parties are united on the national issue.

He said, "They are confident that the government's initiative will reduce the spread of the virus."

Assad Qaiser urged both federal and provincial governments to work together in this regard
