Pervez Musharraf filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the death sentence

ISLAMABAD: Former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf has referred to the Supreme Court against the death sentence passed by a special court in a serious treason case.

Pervez Musharraf's lawyer Barrister Salman Safdar filed a 65-page petition against the special court's decision.

At the same time, another petition was filed in the court which requested the suspension of the special court's decision till the final verdict was rendered.

It should be noted that a special court comprising judges of the High Court had on December 17 ordered General (retd) Pervez Musharraf to die in a serious treason case.

The former president's petition, favouring the federal and special court, requested that the special court's decision be nullified.

Miscellaneous petitions filed in the Supreme Court held that Pervez Musharraf's trial was a clear violation of the Constitution and the criminal code.

The petition stated that the special court violated the constitution six times during the trial and that Musharraf was not given the right to a trial.

In the petition filed in the Supreme Court, it was requested that the special court had sentenced the death sentence five times to be declared invalid.
