Land Case: Mir Shakeel ur Rehman handed over to NAB on physical remand

The Lahore Accountability Court has approved the 12-day physical remand of Jung and Geo editor-in-chief Mir Shakeel-ur-Rehman in the land purchase case.

In the provincial capital's Accountability Court, Judge Amir Mohammad Khan heard the 54-canal land case filed by NAB, where Geo and Jang Group editor-in-chief Mir Shakeel-ur-Rehman were presented to seek physical remand.

Senior counsel Aitzaz Ahsan appeared on behalf of Mir Shakeel-ur-Rehman while NAB was represented by Prosecutor Asad Awan.

At the beginning of the trial, Aitzaz Ahsan sought permission to meet with Mir Shakeel-ur-Rehman and said that he had just signed a lawyer. I should be allowed to meet my client.

The court adjourned the hearing for some time, allowing them to.

However, after the break, when the hearing began, Aitzaz Ahsan took the stand that Mir Shakeel did not run away. He appeared before the NAB. Why was he arrested when Mir Shakeel was cooperating with the NAB

Aitzaz Ahsan said that Mir Shakeel did not buy land from LDA;

He said that my client's name is Mir Shakeel-ur-Rehman, and he was arrested because he was criticizing the Government, he had to be arrested by some government.

Aitzaz Ahsan said that whenever the NAB called, Mir Shakeel appeared and arrested him on the second hearing.

While arguing during the hearing, Aitzaz Ahsan said that Mir Shakeel was not running away but NAB did not hear the accused's position and arrested him. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was also arrested by the NAB.

He said that Mir Shakeel had taken the answer to NAB's questions yesterday, but was arrested illegally.

Aitzaz Ahsan said that when the chairman NAB did not see the file of Mir Shakeel's case, how to issue a warrant, NAB's lawyer took the position that Mir Shakeel ur Rehman was arrested after fulfilling legal requirements.

He said that NAB's attitude towards Mir Shakeel-ur-Rehman is malicious. NAB should not get physical remand of Mir Shakeel-ur-Rahman nor should he have judicial remand.

Aitzaz Ahsan said that Mir Shakeel ur Rehman should be excluded from the case.

However, the court later handed over Shakeel to the NAB on a 12-day physical remand, as well as a report on the investigation of Mir Shakeel-ur-Rehman.

Meanwhile, Aitzaz Ahnas requested to change the date of the hearing, which the court approved and ordered Mir Shakeel to appear again on March 25.
