Abu Dhabi: UAE court has sentenced an Indian citizen to life imprisonment and heavy fines for smuggling fake currency.

According to a report by a foreign news agency, a fake currency note smuggling case was heard in a UAE court of Dubai, in which the court convicted an Indian citizen involved in smuggling of currency notes, sentenced to 3 years imprisonment and 200,000 dirhams fine.

The UAE news agency said the Indian citizen who arrived in the United Arab Emirates from India had hidden millions of fake currency notes in a secret box of his bag.

The bags were unusually inflated due to a fake note being hidden in secret boxes. Due to which the customs authorities suspected the Indian citizen and put the bag on the scanning machine.

When the bag came on the scanning machine, it was discovered that the unknown items were hidden in the secret boxes. When they checked, the fake Indian currency was recovered inside.

The customs authorities arrested the Indian citizen after recovering the fake notes and started the investigation, the accused said in a preliminary statement that the notes belonged to his friend who was supposed to deliver them to Dubai.
