National team wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has termed the three-year ban on his brother Umar Akmal as excessive and said that if the board had solid evidence, Umar Akmal should have been banned for life.

Middle-order batsman Umar Akmal has been banned from playing any form of cricket for three years for violating the Pakistan Cricket Board's anti-corruption code.

Commenting on Umar Akmal's ban, wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal said, "I don't understand why the three-year ban has been imposed because I haven't talked about it yet."

"The three-year ban is a big blow to me as well as our family and Umar Akmal himself," he said.

Talking to Indian media, he added that Umar struggled for three or four years to get into the team, our previous team management did not allow him to play and these things are not good for any player including Umar.

He further said that the basis on which Umar Akmal was suspended, if that was true and the board had solid evidence, then he should have been banned for life.

"Umar Akmal and I have been severely abused by being banned for three years, but we cannot fight and can only appeal against this decision," he said.

It may be recalled that a few hours before the start of the fifth edition of the Pakistan Super League, the Pakistan Cricket Board had suspended Umar Akmal and he could not represent his team Quetta Gladiators in the PSL.

The Pakistan Cricket Board had suspended Umar Akmal for violating anti-corruption laws and issued a notice of charge seeking a reply within 14 days.

Umar Akmal had not applied for a hearing in the anti-corruption tribunal while submitting a reply to the notice, after which the Pakistan Cricket Board had referred the matter to the chairman of the disciplinary committee and former Lahore High Court judge Fazal Chauhan, who on April 27 Decided

After the ban by the Pakistan Cricket Board, Umar Akmal will not be able to play any form of cricket for 3 years and his career is feared to end after this ban.
