If Pakistan does not include Aamir in the World Cup squad, it would be a serious mistake: Mickey Arthur

Former head coach of the national team, Mickey Arthur, has said that if Pakistan does not select Mohammad Amir in the T20 World Cup squad, it would be a serious mistake.

During an interview, Mickey Arthur said that Aamir had talked to him about Test cricket, he had talked to him a lot and maybe his attitude towards playing a Test match was too harsh.

"I could see that Aamir's interest in Test cricket was diminishing and his body was unable to withstand the pressure of all three formats," he said.

Aamir announced his retirement from Test cricket last year and fellow fast bowler Wahab Riaz followed suit, breaking away from the longest format of the game, which drew strong criticism from both players.

"I can't imagine Aamir will not be part of Pakistan's World Cup squad, he is a match-winner, if Pakistan does not select him in the World Cup squad, then his chances of winning the title automatically," he said.

Mickey Arthur backed Aamir and Wahab's decision to quit Test cricket, saying it would help the duo prolong their limited-overs careers.

Bowling coach Waqar Younis, along with current head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq, expressed their gratitude for the decision on Test cricket by Aamir and Wahab.

After that, it is feared that Misbah-ul-Haq may not include both the players in the national team again in limited-overs cricket. However, Mickey Arthur said that if this happens, it will be a big mistake for Pakistan.

It may be recalled that after the World Cup 2019, the Pakistan Cricket Board had sacked the entire team management including Mickey Arthur, and handed over the post of a head coach to Misbah-ul-Haq.
