KARACHI: Former Jamaat-e-Islami chief Syed Munawar Hassan has died at the age of 79 after a long illness. Munawar Hassan had been ill for some time but was in critical condition and had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Karachi for the past several days. He was also shifted to a ventilator for a few days.

Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Deputy Ameer Dr. Merajul Huda Siddiqui while talking to private channel Geo News confirmed the death of Syed Munawar Hassan and said that he had been undergoing treatment at Imam Clinic in Karachi for about 20 days. He had recovered, but in the end, he returned to his Lord.
He said that Munawar Hassan had rendered many services for the religion and this country and he started his political career with the National Students Federation. After that, he joined Jamiat-e-Islami students and remained the Nazim-e-Ala and then joined Jamaat-e-Islami.
He added that he continued to train the people ideologically and prepare millions of young people for the service of religion in the country and set up a system to help many helpless, orphans, and widows.
Dr. Meraj-ul-Huda said that his demise has struck a chord with the people of this country. He has been expressing his religious views all his life. His views were very wide. He was well aware of the ups and downs of Pakistan's politics. He was a man of truth.
Talking about Munawar Hassan, Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman of Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi said that he was a great man and a perfect man who was never seen in the second row of prayers. He said that the former Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami had been ill for a long time and was suffering from tremors but his condition had deteriorated over the last 10 to 15 days after which he was shifted to a ventilator.
Referring to the personality of Munawar Hassan, he said that he was steadfast in his intentions and decisions, spoke the truth, and did not bow before any powerful person.
According to the announcement of Jamaat-e-Islami, the funeral prayers of the former Ameer will be offered on Saturday, June 27, afternoon prayers at Eid Gah Ground, Nazimabad.
