Due to Corona, worship can be restricted in Ramadan, Ayatollah Khamenei

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has said that because of the outbreak of the Coronavirus, religious worship may be restricted in the holy month of Ramadan for Muslims.

Iran's Supreme Leader made the statement at a time when religious practices were already banned in almost all Islamic countries, including Iran, due to the Coronavirus.

Iran was the first Islamic country to impose a temporary ban on Friday gatherings because of the Coronavirus, while also shutting down religious places for some time.

After Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Egypt, and Pakistan also temporarily banned Friday gatherings, while Saudi Arabia suspended Umrah for an indefinite period.

Western countries, including Islamic countries, have also banned religious worship by shutting down the churches, and it is thought that the process will continue for another two and a half months.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei pointed out in his TV address on April 9 that instead of reducing the Coronavirus, Iran's Communist Party indicated that collective worship could be restricted during the month because of the outbreak.

According to news agency Associated Press (AP), Ayatollah Khamenei addressed the nation on TV on April 9, saying that because of the outbreak of Corona, worship could also be banned in Ramadan.

According to the report, the Supreme Leader in his address said that due to the corona epidemic, people will lose their worship in the month of Mubarak, so they should worship at home comfortably.

In his address, though he did not explicitly say whether the government would ban communal worship in Ramadaan, he urged the people to remain confined to their homes during the month of Mubarak in view of caution and to worship there.

It is believed that Iran is the largest country affected by the Coronavirus in Islamic countries, whereby April 10, the number of people infected had increased to more than 66,000 while the death toll there had increased to over 4,000.
