Clashes Between Iran And America

Iran stresses America
It is clear that tensions between Iran and the United States intensified when an American citizen was killed as a result of a 30-rocket firing at an Iraqi military base in Kirkuk, north of Baghdad, on December 27th.

In response to this, US forces December 29 under military operation (OIR) attacked Iranian pro-militia Qatayb Hezbollah Iraq and five bases in Syria, killing 25 militants.

Thousands of people raided the US embassy in Baghdad on the death of the fighters, but many US diplomats and embassy staff were safely evacuated earlier.

Protesters were holding posters demanding the closure of the embassy and ordering the US forces leave the parliament, who not only stoned the embassy but threw security cameras at the walls.

US President Donald Trump condemned the attack on the US embassy in Baghdad, blamed Iran for the attack and warned Tehran that it would have to pay a "heavy price".

In response, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei strongly condemned the airstrikes in Iraq, threatening that his country was ready to counter the threats.

Further tensions escalated when the US drone strike killed Qasim Sulaimani, the head of Iran's al-Qaeda and the most important commander, along with Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi al-Mahindas.

A statement from the Pentagon said that "the purpose of the attack was to stop planning Iranian attacks in the future and that the United States would continue to take necessary measures to protect its citizens and its interests worldwide."

Iran's reaction to the death of Qasim Sulaimani was stormy and Tehran vowed to avenge the killing, threatening the United States with dire consequences.

Iran's state TV termed the killing of Qasim Sulaimani as America's biggest mistake after World War II, saying that the people of the region would no longer give the United States any opportunity to stay here.

Later on January 4, a rocket attack on a base of US troops in the green zone of the Iraqi capital Baghdad was reported but no casualties were reported.
