Cricket Australia has declared New South Wales a champion, canceling the final of its domestic tournament Sheffield Shield in view of the spread of the Coronavirus outbreak worldwide.

Remember that Cricket Australia canceled round matches a few days ago due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus and on Tuesday Cricket Australia announced the winner of the Sheffield Shield and confirmed that they had canceled all types of cricket in the country. The offices are also closed.

The New South Wales team had already made it to the final thanks to a victory in six of Sheffield Shield's 9 matches while defending champion Victoria was second in the race for the final.

Speaking in Melbourne on Tuesday, Cricket Australia chief executive Kevin Roberts said, "News South Wales' lead at the points table made the decision easy for us.

"We considered various aspects before deciding whether the Sheffield Shield should be postponed or some other steps are taken, but in the present case we were forced to make that decision," he said.

Cricket will now work for all Australian cricket staff from home, while the current situation has affected domestic cricket as well as Australia's international matches, where all matches of the Australian team have been canceled.

Kevin Roberts said that by canceling all matches, including the rest of the season, Cricket Australia is doing its part to protect its players, fans, staff and all concerned, including match officials, from this epidemic and we hope that such steps will be taken. We will be able to play a role in preventing the virus
