News About Bangladesh hosting Asia Cup are baseless

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief executive officer Wasim Khan has strongly denied rumours that Pakistan's visit to Bangladesh was the result of a deal.

It is to be remembered that Pakistan is to host the T20 Asia Cup this year and there is news circulating in the media that Pakistan has given Asia Cup to Bangladesh for their visit to Pakistan but Waseem Khan has denied the rumours.

It was not decided at the time when Pakistan was scheduled to host the event in 2018, whether Pakistan would host the event on its soil or in the United Arab Emirates but over the last one-and-a-half years, including the Pakistan Super League. After successfully hosting the series, Pakistan is now looking to host the event on its own soil.

"The news about Bangladesh hosting the Asia Cup is absolutely baseless and false, we have not talked to Bangladesh about the Asia Cup," Wasim Khan told media in Lahore.

"This is an Asian Cricket Council tournament and they have given us the hosting rights and we cannot change them," he said.

In the event of the Asia Cup being held in Pakistan, the Indian team's participation in the event may be questioned because of the tense situation between the two countries. The scheduled event was also shifted to Bangladesh last time in India.

Asked about India's participation in the scheduled event in September, Waseem Khan said, "The decision will be taken by the Asian Cricket Council and we may consider playing the event at two venues.

PCB Chief Executive Officer said that if India objected to playing in Pakistan, we could choose another location, when we have to go to India for the 2021 T20 World Cup, regarding the security and visa of the players. Due to the ambiguous situation, this thing can still be processed.

It should be remembered that the Bangladesh Cricket Board was willing to send the team to Pakistan but they were not in favour of playing Test matches and sending the team to Pakistan for long.

However, the two countries met on the sidelines of the International Cricket Meeting in Dubai, and with the assistance of ICC Chairman Shashank Manohar, the Bangladesh team agreed to visit Pakistan.

After the Bangladesh side expressed their willingness to visit Pakistan, it was reported that Pakistan had agreed to Pakistan for the Asia Cup hosting Bangladesh, but now Waseem Khan has denied the news.
