Upgradation of Pakistan's only polio test laboratory completed
Islamabad: Upgradation of Pakistan's only polio test laboratory has been completed; The polio lab has been upgraded with the support of the Japanese government.
According to details, an upgrade ceremony of the polio laboratory was held at the National Institutes of Health, which was attended by Japanese Ambassador Matsuda Kanuri, President (JICA) Dr. Kataoka Shinichi, and Dr. Mahi Plata, Head of World Health Organization Pakistan.
Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) president Kataoka Shinichi said the upgrade of the polio laboratory cost $ 3.3 million dollars, providing the laboratory with advanced machinery for polio testing.
Addressing the event, Dr. Rana Safdar, the head of the National Polio Emergency Center, said the improvement of the laboratory would improve poliovirus eradication. The lab has a capacity of 30,000 polio tests annually, this laboratory tests polio samples from Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Japanese Ambassador Matsuda Kanuri said at the ceremony that laboratory upgrades would make a better diagnosis of polio virus, Japan will continue its strong support for anti-polio, we have provided $ 229 million dollars for anti-polio assistance to Pakistan.
