It is understood that Major General Qasim Sulaimani, the head of the Quds Force of the Revolutionary Army, was killed in a US airstrike near the airport in the Iraqi capital January 3.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei threatened the United States with dire consequences and declared Qasim Sulaimani a global face of resistance and declared three-day mourning in the country.

Ayatollah Khamenei appointed General Qasim Sulaimani as his new deputy, Ismail as the new head of the Quds Force of the Revolutionary Revolution.

US President Donald Trump, on the other hand, had said that Iranian generals should have killed Major General Qasim Sulaimani, the head of the Quds Force of the Revolution.

Donald Trump said in a tweet on the social networking site that Qasim Sulaimani had 'dealt with' many years ago because he was trying to kill many people but he was caught.

In addition, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the Iranian commander's death in the US airstrike in Baghdad was aimed at stopping an "extreme attack" that posed a threat to Americans in the Middle East.

Mike Pompeo refuses to talk about 'alleged threat' details while interviewing Fox News and CNN, according to Reuters news agency
