The global community should consider forgiving the debts of poor countries like Pakistan: PM

Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed concern that the Coronavirus could destroy the economies of developing countries and warned that rich economies should prepare to forgive the world's poorest countries.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has called on the international community to consider forgiving some debts for poor countries like Pakistan fighting corona virus.
In a special interview with the US news agency Associated Press, the Prime Minister said, "I am concerned about poverty and hunger. Lack of debt will at least help us overcome the Corona virus."
Expressing his concern, he said he was worried that if the virus spread in Pakistan intensified, the efforts made by his government to put the declining economy on its feet would begin to fall back.
The Prime Minister further said that exports will decrease, unemployment will increase and the burden of domestic debt will become unbearable.
"This is not just Pakistan but I think it will be a situation for India, the subcontinent and African countries," the Prime Minister continued.
Referring to the virus, the Prime Minister said, "If it spreads further, we will face problems in terms of health care, we have neither the capacity nor the resources."
