Security Council meeting reviews the situation in occupied Kashmir

Islamabad: The UN Security Council (UNSC) convenes a meeting to assess the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the Indian-occupied valley.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who is currently on a mission to ease tensions between the United States and Iran, also arrived in New York on Wednesday afternoon and met with UN chiefs before leaving for Washington.

His first meeting was with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, after which he met with UN General Assembly President Tizani Muhammad Bande.

According to the report, the UNSC meeting took place in a closed room, but Chinese Ambassador Zheng Jun spoke to reporters outside his chamber, confirming that the Security Council reviewed the situation in the occupied valley.

When asked about the Chinese ambassador regarding China's position on Kashmir issue, he said, "Our position is very clear", China considers Kashmir a contentious area between India and Pakistan and openly Supports the Islamabad on the demand that the people of Kashmir should be given the right self-determination to decide their own future.

The Chinese ambassador did not say whether the Line of Control expected to be discussed at the Security Council's UN Military Observer Group report or was it a briefing.
