Power Sector Inquiry Committee, suggestions for improvement in power sector, presented to PM

Islamabad: The Power Sector Inquiry Committee has submitted proposals for the improvement of the power sector to the Prime Minister. The committee has recommended a forensic audit of the plants for investigation of under-invoicing by the IPPs.
According to the document, the Inquiry Committee has recommended a forensic audit of the power plants to confirm the use of fuel for the production of electricity and the misrepresentation by the plants to the NEPRA.
The committee has recommended to Prime Minister Imran Khan that all fuel-powered IPPs should be audited and a dialogue between all relevant bodies should be initiated on the issue of selling power plants by power plants.
The Inquiry Committee has also said that mutual consultation should resolve the issue of the cost of electricity. IPS should also conduct a forensic audit of kickbacks and illegal commissioning of fuel.
The Inquiry Committee proposes to take action against any misinformation IPPs at any level. In consultation with the federal and provincial governments, the five years National Electricity Plans should be prepared while the Power Division should be restructured and made a technical ministry.
