Pakistan's first TV host and radio announcer Kanwal Naseer has died at the age of 70 after a short illness. Kanwal Naseer has been associated with radio and TV for more than five decades, starting her career at just 17 years old.
Kanwal Naseer was the first woman to host Pakistan Television (PTV) for the first time on November 26, 1964, along with well-known host Tariq Aziz. Kanwal Naseer had announced for the first time on PTV that 'this is Pakistan Television', with Tariq Aziz being the first male TV host.
Kanwal Naseer had been suffering from diabetes for some time and was shifted to the hospital a few days ago, where she met Khaliq Haqiqi. According to a report published in Dawn newspaper, Kanwal Naseer was admitted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital in Islamabad three days ago, where she passed away on March 25.
Kanwal Naseer has left behind a son and three daughters in mourning. She was the daughter of renowned artist and broadcaster Mohani Hameed. While Kanwal Naseer has the distinction of being the first female TV host, she has also had the honor of being a TV and radio host for many years and has received other awards, including government awards, for her services.
Many showbiz, political and social personalities expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Kanwal Naseer and paid tributes to him for his services.
