Islamabad: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) summoned three PML-N leaders next week, including former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, to record a statement in a judge's video scandal case.
Sources said that in addition to the former Prime Minister, the FIA's Anti-Terrorism Wing called on PML-N Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal and the party's parliamentary leader Khawaja Asif to record statements on March 9 and 10.
In this regard, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will have to visit the FIA's office in Islamabad on March 9, while notices of other PML-N leaders were presented on March 10.
The three leaders were present at the press conference of the party's Vice President Maryam Nawaz on July 6 in the Model Town Secretariat of the PML-N in which they played the video 'secretly recorded'.
In the video above, the accountability court judges were allegedly heard saying they were blackmailed to punish former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia reference case.
Nawaz claimed that the video was recorded by a sympathizer of the PML-N.
It is to be noted that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Ahsan Iqbal came to Karachi on a two-day visit due to the restructuring of their party.
Earlier, PML-N Senator Pervez Rasheed, Deputy Secretary-General Atta Tarard and Azam Bukhari recorded their statement before a three-member team headed by FIA counter-terrorist wing Babar Bakht, who has videoed by the judge. I am investigating the change complaint.
After appearing in front of an FIA team in Lahore last December, Senator Pervez Rasheed said he had asked investigators to perform a forensic audit of former Accountability Court Judge Arshad Malik's video in which he pressured I came and confessed to convicting former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Alizia Mills reference.
Pervez Rashid further said that 'this is an open case and there is no need to investigate who made the video.'
He said that the PML-N also believes in presenting evidence in court, but party leaders held a press conference to inform the public about their leader's innocence.
Similarly, Atar Tarad told reporters after appearing before the FIA investigators that he had submitted the answers a few months ago and that the FIA had only asked him to appear at the press conference of Maryam Nawaz.
He further said that he was not investigated by the judge about the video and why the government was reluctant to conduct a forensic audit of the videotapes.
Atta Tarard said that the FIA had already submitted its report to the court, but since Wajid Zia took over as FIA's head, he started seeking PML-N leaders in this regard.
It is to be noted that Wajid Zia is the person who collected the evidence against Nawaz Sharif and his family in the Panama case which resulted in Nawaz Sharif being shaken from his power.
