India: Hindu nationalists opened fire on protesters saying 'This is Your Freedom'

A Hindu nationalist in New Delhi, India, injured a student by firing on a student protesting against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) while live streaming on the internet.

According to foreign news agency AFP, the video that went viral on the Internet can be seen that the suspect fired at a student protesting against a controversial law outside Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi, saying 'This is freedom' and 'New Delhi police alive'.

To be clear, there was an incident in 1948 when Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated by a Hindu extremist.

In the viral video and photos, it can be seen that the armed man is carrying a pistol and there is a heavy police force in the background. According to the Times of India report, Congress party spokesman Manish Tewari said that the incident of firing on students outside the Jamia Millia is a source of hatred and that is what the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wants.

He said that the fire of hatred has been steadily increasing over the past month.

In addition, Bheem Army Chief Chandrasekhar Azad met Shadab Farooq, the injured student of Jamia Millia Islamia, in the hospital.

Indian Home Minister Amit Shah, on the other hand, handed over the responsibility of investigating the incident outside the Jamia Millia to the CP Delhi Police.

Shadab Farooq's condition is out of danger, police said, citing doctors.

He said the incident happened within a few seconds, but then the suspect was immediately put under control.He said the case was transferred to the crime branch.

Meanwhile, the Facebook company cancelled the account of Ram Bhakt Gopal, who was shooting at protesters outside Jamia Millia Islamia.

A Facebook spokesperson said, "There is no room on Facebook for any act that involves violence, we have cancelled the armed person's Facebook account".

Joint Commissioner of Police Devenish Shrivastu said that students of Jamia Millia Islamia sought permission to protest against the CAA at Rajghat (the last resting place of the deceased Mahatma Gandhi) and police were preventing them.

He said that a case has been registered against the gunman under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act and further investigation is underway.

The Aam Aadmi Party (APP) has accused the BJP of wanting a 'violent riot' in New Delhi.

The APP also demanded the resignation of Indian Home Minister Amit Shah.

According to Indian media, the firing boy is a minor and his educational credentials are listed as April 8, 2002. It should be remembered that the central government of the Bharatiya Janata Party had passed a controversial bill on Indian citizenship in Parliament, under which citizens who came to India illegally from neighbouring countries (Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan) before December 31, 2014, were granted citizenship. But Muslims will not be part of it.

After the passage of the bill, it became law after which protests broke out in India and internet protests and curfew continued in many major cities of the country, despite protests in the northeastern states.
