Posted on Mar 20, 2020

India imposed a death sentence of 4 for gang rape and murder on a Delhi bus in 2012.

According to AFP report, Sandip Goyal, chief of Tihar Jail in the Indian capital, said that the four criminals were hanged at 5.30 am in the morning.

It is thought that after the horrific attack on Jyoti Singh in 2012, there were protests against sexual violence all over India for several weeks.

There are around 95 rape cases reported in India daily.

People were celebrated outside the jail when the accused were sentenced to death.

The mother of the victim, Asha Devi, told reporters outside the jail, "We are satisfied that my daughter finally got justice after 7 years and the beasts were hanged."

Mina Sharma of Delhi holding the Indian flag told AFP that 'all Indian women got justice today'.

"I came here around 3 pm and waited because today was a great day for us," She said.

It should be noted that 23-year-old Jyoti Singh boarded a bus on the night of December 16, 2012, with a friend on his way back from the cinema.

Five people on the bus, and a 17-year-old boy, knocked the girl unconscious, and took Jyoti Singh to the back of the bus and raped him, torturing him with an iron rod.
