The apex court has sought a written reply from the government on the direction of presenting Colonel (retd) inam-ur-Rahim Advocate, who is in the custody of the Ministry of Defense.
It may be recalled that the Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court had declared the custody of the former military officer illegal and ordered his immediate release, against which the federal government had filed a petition in the Supreme Court.
A bench comprising Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah of the Supreme Court heard the petition of the federal government.
At the hearing, the Attorney General appealed to the court that this was a matter of national security, so an in-camera hearing should be made, but the court rejected his request.
The Attorney General submitted a report regarding the arrest of Inam-ur-Rahim in a sealed envelope, on which Justice Mushir Alam remarked that all that was written in this report has been published so as not to dramatize things.
The Attorney General requested the court to suspend the trial court's decision to release Inam-ur-Rahim.
To which Justice Mushir Alam said that a short decision of the Lahore High Court has come, it seems that a detailed decision has not yet been made. Let the detailed decision come till then implement the short decision of the court.
