London: With 12 flights from Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) this week, 4,000 people will arrive in the UK from Pakistan.
British High Commissioner Dr. Christian Turner briefs reporters The number of British nationals wishing to return to England from Pakistan is 'very large' But the priority is given to those who are weak or have no support.
The British High Commissioner said: "We are working hard with the Government of Pakistan and PIA to return 4,000 people to the UK and this number is far higher than the number of British nationals trapped in other countries of the world". ۔
He acknowledged that many people who wanted to board a flight failed due to a huge increase in demand.
Over the past five days, over a thousand British citizens have arrived in the UK via special PIA flights, but there is still a large number that remains uncertain.
There are currently about one lac British citizens in Pakistan, of which around 21,000 came from the UK on temporary visas.
On the other hand, the British Transport Secretary said that the Coronavirus has stranded 750,000 British citizens around the world, with the government helping over 160,000 people return from Spain, Morocco, Cyprus via commercial flights.
In addition, only 1400 British citizens were returned by charter flights from Wuhan and Peru until 31 March.
In this regard, one of the chartered companies hired by the German government said that they had offered assistance to the UK as well but received no response from the Foreign Office.
On the other hand, citizens who are at risk of being listed on the British High Commission expressed their gratitude that the PIA is asking travelers to come to the office for payment and that online payments are being refused.
In this regard, spokesman PIA Abdullah Hafeez told that the PIA is urging digital payment to travelers for the available flights till April 11, yet the troubled people gather at the ticket offices.
