The film was initially announced to be released in 2020 but was postponed after the Corona epidemic. The film's shooting continued for many years in Europe, Africa, and other parts of the world, including New Zealand, and in this too, James Cameron has used modern and unique technology like the first film.

After the second film in the series, the third film will also be released a few years later, as the filmmakers have already announced the making of 'Avatar' in the trilogy series. James Cameron said in an interview in 2018 that the 'Avatar' series would be made into a trilogy, with at least five films being made in the first trilogy.

He had said that the first trilogy of 'Avatar' would consist of 5 films, for which four sequels of this film will be made, and the first film will be the beginning of the said trilogy. James Cameron had explained that the sequel's story to 'Avatar' would be different from the first film, and now the movie of this series will move forward like a family.

The filmmaker had said that four more sequels would be made for the first trilogy of 'Avatar,' and the story of each film would start from where the story of the first film would end. After the sequel, 'Avatar 3' is expected to be released in 2024, 'Avatar 4' in 2026, and 'Avatar 5' in 2028.

James Cameron released Avatar in 2009, setting new worldwide box office records, surpassing his 1999 film Titanic. Avatar was the highest-grossing film of all time for a decade till 2019, but then the history of its earnings was broken by Avengers and Game.

Earlier, James Cameron's film "Titanic" was the highest-grossing film of a decade, released in 1999.
