A Chinese Film Broke the Most Important Record of Avengers and Game
Avengers and Game is the highest-grossing film in the world, but a huge revenue record has now been broken in China.
In the first week of its release, the movie 'Detective China Town 3', released on the occasion of the Lunar New Year in China, snatched the record of highest-grossing in any country from Avengers Endgame. The new film grossed 398.5 million in China from Friday to Sunday, while Avengers & Game grossed 357 million in its first week in the United States.
It has done two and a half times more business than Detective Chinatown 2, which collected 156 million for the 2018 Lunar New Year. The new film also holds the record for most business in a single day in a single country at 162 million.
The franchise revolves around a young puzzle solver (Liu Horn) and his uncle (Wang Bao Cheng) who solve crimes. The first installment was released on Christmas Eve 2015 and grossed 125 million in China. The third installment was supposed to be released on the eve of the Lunar New Year in 2020, but it did not happen due to the Coronavirus epidemic and it was released a year late.
It could be as high as 600 million to 800 million. The Star Wars series grossed over 930 million in the United States. It is still the 13th highest-grossing film in China, surpassing the 392 million business of Fast 7 and 8. The film had a budget of 117 million, so it has already made almost three times the profit in the first three days.
Given the Coronavirus epidemic in the United States and around the world, it is likely to be the highest-grossing film of 2021. The record was first snatched from Hollywood last year by a Chinese film, The Eight Hundred, which grossed 470 million.
