'UrduFlix' Is Likely to Be Launched in Pakistan in January Next Year

In October, Science and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry had hinted that the government would soon launch a streaming website, like Netflix.

Fawad Chaudhry had said that the Ministry of Science and Technology has completed a lot of work on the streaming website and the ministry has asked the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to prepare guidelines for content to broadcast. No progress has been made by the government in introducing the streaming website but a private digital media platform has announced the introduction of the streaming website soon.

Pro Pakistani quoted another website in its report as saying that Farhan Gohar, founder of E-Max Media Group, had confirmed that his group would soon launch a streaming website. The report said that the digital media group, which is already running a streaming website, will launch the Netflix-style website ”UrduFlix”, which will include purely Urdu dramas, films, documentaries, comedy, and reality shows. Including Turkish Urdu translated dramas will be broadcast.

A recent post released by UrduFlix on its Instagram account states that eMax Media will launch the Urdu service in January next year. The post said that the internationally recognized digital network eMax Media has started work on the development of the on-demand streaming segment with the announcement of the first Urdu OTT platform in Pakistan. It was further said that original and special content in the Urdu language will be presented all over the world on this OTT platform.

The OTT platform is expected to be officially launched in mid-January 2021, the post said. In addition, the Urdu Flix website has also been introduced, according to which UrduFlix users will have access to original Urdu series, films, web series, drama series, and Turkish dramas dubbed in Urdu. If we take a look at the above announcement of E-Max Media and the Instagram account of the UrduFlix official, it seems that the process of preparing the original web series to be provided on the first Urdu OTT platform is also underway.

The user has to pay a monthly fee, in return for which the said website gives the user access to watch movies, dramas, and shows. Normally, the monthly fee of such websites ranges from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 1,500, but in recent times, due to the increasing trend of streaming websites as compared to TV and cinema, their fees are also increasing.

It is too early to say what the monthly fee of 'UrduFlix' will be, however, it is being speculated that its monthly fee may be from 750 to 1200.
