Pakistani Short Film 'Mulaqat' Entered the Oscar Race.

The film 'Malaqat', directed by Pakistani-born British filmmaker Seemab Gill, won the top award at the Short Film Festival in the United States, after which the film itself entered the race for the highest film award the Oscar.

According to the showbiz website 'The Wrap', the Urdu language film 'Malaqat' is one of the three films that won top awards at the California Short Film Festival.

'Malaqat' won the top award in the 'Live Action category at the short film festival 'Holy Shorts', after which the film automatically qualified for the 'Oscars'.

Apart from the Pakistani film, two other films also qualified for the Oscars; among the remaining two short films, one film (Hallelujah) won the best short film, while the other (Scale) qualified for the Oscar in the animated category.

Sandstorm was awarded in the live-action category, after which the film automatically joined the race for the live-action category of the Oscars, and now the same film will compete with other films from around the world at the 2023 Oscars.

Its producer Abid Aziz Merchant also said in an Instagram post about including Malaqaat in the Oscar race.

Apart from the film above, 'Inthar' has also won awards at various festivals and screened in other international films, including 'Venice'.

The film is directed by Seemab Gul, a Pakistani-origin based in London, starring Prizey Fatima and Hamza Mushtaq.

Produced by Abid Aziz Merchant, this short film was shot in Karachi during the global pandemic.

The film's story revolves around 'Zara, a school-going girl in Karachi, who shares a dance video with her estranged boyfriend, who later blackmails her over the said video'.
