Javed Akhtar declared Modi a fascist. Mumbai: Renowned Indian poet and songwriter Javed Akhtar criticized the actions of the ruling BJP (Bhartiya Janata Party) and declared Narendra Modi a fascist.
In an interview to Al Jazeera TV, when Javed Akhtar was asked if he considered Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi a fascist, he unequivocally said, "Of course."
Javed Akhtar said that fascists peoples have no horns on heads, fascists are a thing. The thought that we are better than others and all the problems are caused by others, 'the moment you start hating people you become fascists'.
Leading director Mahesh Bhatt was also present in the program. When the host asked him about Islamophobia, Mahesh Bhatt said that Islamophobia was created after the 9/11 tragedy, "This phobia (fear) is created because I don't think a typical Indian is Afraid of a Muslim.
He said Indian journalists and channels go day and night in creating this fear.
It is to be noted that Mahesh Bhatt and Javed Akhtar are among the conscientious Indians who have openly opposed Modi's cruel and inhumane actions.
Earlier, Javed Akhtar said during a protest in India that it was ridiculous to call Faiz's poem anti-Hindu, Faiz Ahmed Faiz's poem is against the restrictions on freedom of expression.
